⁶ The Lord regretted^(A) that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. ⁷ So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth^(B) the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.^(C)”

³⁷ As it was in the days of Noah,^(A) so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

¹⁹ because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world,^(A) until now—and never to be equaled again.^(B)

²⁶ People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.^(A)

God’s Wrath Against Sinful Humanity

¹⁸ The wrath of God^(A) is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,

²⁵ They exchanged the truth about God for a lie,^(A) and worshiped and served created things^(B) rather than the Creator—who is forever praised.^(C) Amen.^(D)

²⁶ Because of this, God gave them over^(E) to shameful lusts.^(F) Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.^{(G) 27} In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.^(H)

⁸ We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.^{(A) 9} We should not test Christ,^[a](B) as some of them did—and were killed by snakes.^{(C) 10} And do not grumble, as some of them did^(D)—and were killed^(E) by the destroying angel.^(F)

²⁰ The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent^(A) of the work of their hands;^(B) they did not stop worshiping demons,^(C) and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood—idols that cannot see or hear or walk.^{(D) 21} Nor did they repent^(E) of their murders, their magic arts,^(F) their sexual immorality^(G) or their thefts.
