“Two nations^(A) are in your womb,
    and two peoples from within you will be separated;
one people will be stronger than the other,
    and the older will serve the younger.^(B)”

¹² even the darkness will not be dark^(A) to you;
    the night will shine like the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.

¹³ For you created my inmost being;^(B)
    you knit me together^(C) in my mother’s womb.^(D)
14 I praise you^(E) because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,^(F)
    I know that full well.

⁵ And now the Lord says—
    he who formed me in the womb^(P) to be his servant
to bring Jacob back to him
    and gather Israel^(Q) to himself,
for I am^[a] honored^(R) in the eyes of the Lord
    and my God has been my strength^(S)—
⁶ he says:
“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant^(T)
    to restore the tribes of Jacob
    and bring back those of Israel I have kept.^(U)
I will also make you a light^(V) for the Gentiles,^(W)
    that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”^(X)

⁵ “Before I formed you in the womb^(A) I knew^[a](B) you,
    before you were born^(C) I set you apart;^(D)
    I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.^(E)”

¹⁶ May that man be like the towns^(A)
    the Lord overthrew without pity.
May he hear wailing^(B) in the morning,
    a battle cry at noon.
¹⁷ For he did not kill me in the womb,^(C)
    with my mother as my grave,
    her womb enlarged forever.
¹⁸ Why did I ever come out of the womb^(D)
    to see trouble^(E) and sorrow
    and to end my days in shame?^(F)
