²⁰As for you, you meant evil against me, but^(A) God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people^[a] should be kept alive, as they are today.

⁶Against a^(A) godless nation I send him,
   and against the people of my wrath I command him,
to take^(B) spoil and seize plunder,
   and to^(C) tread them down like the mire of the streets.
⁷But he^(D) does not so intend,
   and his heart does not so think;
but it is in his heart to destroy,
   and to cut off nations not a few;
