¹⁶ I pray that out of his glorious riches^(A) he may strengthen you with power^(B) through his Spirit in your inner being,^{(C) 17} so that Christ may dwell in your hearts^(D) through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted^(E) and established in love, ¹⁸ may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people,^(F) to grasp how wide and long and high and deep^(G) is the love of Christ, ¹⁹ and to know this love that surpasses knowledge^(H)—that you may be filled^(I) to the measure of all the fullness of God.^(J)

²⁴ “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.^(A)

⁴⁸ They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.

⁹ But he said to me, “My grace^(A) is sufficient for you, for my power^(B) is made perfect in weakness.^(C)”^(D) Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. ¹⁰ That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight^(E) in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships,^(F) in persecutions,^(G) in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.^(H)

¹³ I can do all this through him who gives me strength.^(A)

¹⁰ For the love of money^(A) is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith^(B) and pierced themselves with many griefs.^(C)

Final Charge to Timothy

¹¹ But you, man of God,^(D) flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness,^(E) faith, love,^(F) endurance and gentleness.

⁴ You adulterous^(A) people,^[a] don’t you know that friendship with the world^(B) means enmity against God?^(C) Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.^(D)
