⁹ Know therefore that the Lord your God, ^(A)He is God, ^(B)the faithful God, ^(C)who keeps ^[a]His covenant and ^[b]His faithfulness to a thousand generations for those who ^(D)love Him and keep His commandments;

¹³ You call Me ^(A)‘Teacher’ and ^(B)‘Lord’; and ^[a]you are correct, for so I am. ¹⁴ So if I, ^(C)the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. ¹⁵ For I gave you ^(D)an example, so that you also would do just as I did for you. ¹⁶ Truly, truly I say to you, ^(E)a slave is not greater than his master, nor is ^(F)[b]one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. ¹⁷ If you know these things, you are ^(G)blessed if you do them.

²⁸ And we know that ^[a]God ^[b]causes ^(A)all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are ^(B)called according to His purpose.

⁶ And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for the one who ^(A)comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He proves to be One who rewards those who seek Him.

^12 (A)Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has ^[a]been approved, he will receive ^(B)the crown of life which the Lord ^(C)has promised to those who ^(D)love Him.
