Mic 6:1–8

6:1–8 A classic example of the prophetic covenant lawsuit, in which the Lord pleads the terms of the covenant against His disobedient people. The message opens with a judgment scene in which the Lord is plaintiff, Micah is His envoy, the mountains are witnesses, and Israel is the accused (vv. 1, 2). God’s own covenant faithfulness is then attested as He first gives Israel opportunity to voice any complaints (v. 3) and then recounts His mighty acts of deliverance (vv. 4, 5). The demand for covenant righteousness is then proclaimed—a righteousness consisting not merely in empty ritual but in heartfelt obedience (vv. 6–8).
