15:46 tomb . . . cut out of the rock. According to Matt. 27:60, the tomb belonged to Joseph and his family. Such a family burial site would consist of an ornately painted vestibule from which a passageway would lead to individual benches or shelves cut into the rock where the bodies were laid. The tomb would be sealed by a heavy stone that was rolled along a groove cut into the rock at the entrance.
