15:38 the curtain of the temple was torn in two. The death of Jesus is the final and definitive sacrifice for sin (Heb. 7:27). The old dispensation of the covenant of grace is brought to a decisive end. No longer would the high priest need to enter into the Most Holy Place behind the veil to atone for the sins of the people (Ex. 26:31–33; cf. Heb. 9:1–10). Jesus is the new and eternal High Priest (Heb. 8:1), and also the perfect sacrificial victim (Heb. 9:14) who obtains for His people “eternal redemption” (Heb. 9:12).
