24:1–25 This chapter is a fitting conclusion to the books of Samuel. David is shown for what he is, a sinner, but a sinner who is ready to repent and to cast himself upon God’s mercy (12:13 and note). Another appropriate note is the association of the threshing floor of Araunah (vv. 18–25) with Mount Moriah, the future site of the temple (1 Chr. 22:1; 2 Chr. 3:1; Gen. 22:2).
