2 Chr 33:1–20

33:1–20 This portrait of Manasseh forms a striking contrast with 2 Kin. 21:1–18. The harsh condemnation of Manasseh (2 Kin. 21:10–16) is omitted, and there is instead an account of his exile, repentance, return, and reforms (vv. 11–17). The writer of Kings blames Manasseh for the downfall of Jerusalem (2 Kin. 21:11–15). Knowing this, the historian of Chronicles encourages his readers by demonstrating that even the worst of sinners can be forgiven and restored through repentance, humility, and prayer.
