1 Sam 18:7

18:7 David his ten thousands. See 21:11; 29:5. It is a common feature of Hebrew poetry for one or more terms in the first half of a verse to be increased or intensified in the second half. For the thousand-ten thousand parallelism, see Deut. 32:30; Ps. 91:7; 144:13; Mic. 6:7. Whether the women’s song praises Saul and David as equals or implies that David is better than Saul, Saul certainly takes offense to it (v. 8).
