²⁰ For ^(A)when you were slaves of sin, you were free in relation to righteousness. ²¹ Therefore what ^[a](B)benefit were you then ^[b]deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is ^(C)death. ²² But now having been ^(D)freed from sin and ^(E)enslaved to God, you ^[c]derive your ^[d](F)benefit, ^[e]resulting in sanctification, and ^(G)the outcome, eternal life. ²³ For the wages of ^(H)sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is ^(I)eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹⁴ But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. ¹⁵ Then ^(A)when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and ^(B)sin, when it has run its course, brings forth death. ^16 (C)Do not be ^[a]deceived, ^(D)my beloved brothers and sisters.
