John Baptizes Jesus^(A)

^13 (B)Then Jesus came ^(C)from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. ¹⁴ And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?”

¹⁵ But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.

^16 (D)When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and ^[a]He saw ^(E)the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. ^17 (F)And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, ^(G)“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Satan Tempts Jesus^(H)

4 Then ^(I)Jesus was led up by ^(J)the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. ² And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. ³ Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

⁴ But He answered and said, “It is written, ^(K)‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

⁵ Then the devil took Him up ^(L)into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, ⁶ and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:

and,

⁷ Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ^(O)‘You shall not ^[b]tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

⁸ Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and ^(P)showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. ⁹ And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, ^[c]“Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ^(Q)‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

The Ten Commandments^(A)

20 And God spoke ^(B)all these words, saying:

²³ But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will ^(A)worship the Father in ^(B)spirit ^(C)and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. ^24 (D)God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

^42 (A)And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ ^[a]doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

⁴⁷ praising God and having favor with all the people. And ^(A)the Lord added ^[a]to the church daily those who were being saved.

Isaiah Called to Be a Prophet^(A)

6 In the year that ^(B)King Uzziah died, I ^(C)saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. ² Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, ^(D)with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. ³ And one cried to another and said:

⁴ And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.

⁵ So I said:

⁶ Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from ^(H)the altar. ⁷ And he ^(I)touched my mouth with it, and said:

⁸ Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:

Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

⁹ And He said, “Go, and ^(K)tell this people:

¹³ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:

²² let us ^(A)draw near with a true heart ^(B)in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. ²³ Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for ^(C)He who promised is faithful. ²⁴ And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, ^25 (D)not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and ^(E)so much the more as you see ^(F)the Day approaching.
